TIC-TAC-TOETRY, A Fun Day of Poetry!

​Several weeks ago, in honor of National Poetry Month, we hosted classes in the library to celebrate. Our objective was to make poetry interesting, engaging, and fun for our middle school students, while also offering them voice and choice in how they worked through the lesson. We ended up with a range of poetry-related activities that provided our students with a great day of learning!

​National Poetry Month isn’t just for English classes. Poetry can be integrated into a variety of subjects. In our roles as a classroom teacher and school librarian in Fairfax County, Virginia, we’ve put our heads together to come up with easy ways to integrate poetry into social studies, or really any subject. We believe that when librarians and teachers collaborate that bigger and better things happen for students.
