Other Thesis Statement Writing Ideas

Bringing thesis statement writing into your classroom, doesn't have to mean that you are having students write essays all the time. These are quick easy ways to get students thinking about evidence and writing thesis statements either individually or in groups. These can be used as warm-ups, exit tickets or formative assessments. These are just a few ideas to get you started -- we are sure your own ideas will bubble up once you get going.

Treasure Hunt

Go on a thesis hunt: Using a graphic organizer, students find something in their daily life that they can turn into an argument and then build a thesis. This could be something about rules at home, rules at school, opinions about sports or particular school subjects, etc. Younger students could hunt for a thesis in their classroom.
